Grand Gardner is an adaptive reuse boutique hotel in Valparaiso, Indiana. The project involved the renovation of a Romanesque-style school building dating back to 1899, along with two newly constructed modern wings. One wing is wood-framed and houses the guest rooms, while the other is steel construction and contains the ballroom/banquet space, restaurant and bar, fitness center, spa, a speakeasy bar, and multiple outdoor patios. The hotel will offer 54 standard rooms and 6 suites.
This $150 million project transformed an aging 60s-era senior development into a vibrant mixed-income community by renovating the two existing, 394-unit senior living buildings, and adding a new multi-family building that features 80 new units.
The site, formerly the Pyle-National Company, made headlights for railroad cars and stadium lights for Wrigley field. It was deteriorating and in desperate need of help. This large scale Historic Adaptive Reuse project has had an unbelievable transformation into new office and work space.
The hotel features three ballrooms, including the largest in the state at 50,000 SF. In addition to meeting and convention space, the podium level hosts a pool and leisure deck, while a sunken garden anchors the space below.
